IPL 2024: Pant inspires DC to a clinical win over GT

Smacking a brisk 88-run knock unbeaten, Rishabh Pant carried Delhi Capitals to a clinical 4-run win over Gujarat Titans on Wednesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Brilliant efforts from GT’s David Miller and Sai Sudharsan proved to be of no use, with GT falling 4 runs short of DC's formidable total of 224.

Being inserted to bat, DC lost opener Prithvi Shaw early, but in-form Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed 23 off 14 deliveries, hitting two fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, outstanding efforts from skipper Pant and Axar Patel rebounded DC, pushing them to a mammoth total of 220. Axar Patel, joining forces with captain Pant, anchored DC through GT’s solid bowling attack led by Sandeep Warrier, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad, to smash his 50 off 37 balls. 

The stark difference in Pant’s innings was noted when he took the liking to veteran Mohit Sharma, launching him for 31 runs, thus powering DC to a powerful total. 

GT, in their pursuit, started off well, with Wriddhiman Saha scoring 39 off 25, however Shubman Gill fell early on 6 off 5. Sai Sudharsan and David Miller got together, smashing 65 and 55 respectively, and putting life into GT's chase. Needing 19 off final over, Rashid Khan unleashed his assault, taking on DC bowler Mukesh Kumar to whack him for two boundaries and one six, nonetheless GT fell four runs short, however Rashid with his 21 unbeaten took GT so close to a win.
