World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana ruled out of opener against South Africa

Reeling from the hamstring injury suffered during Asia Cup Super 4 game against Pakistan, Maheesh Theekshana will not be available for Sri Lanka’s opening match of the World Cup against South Africa on Saturday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sri Lankan head coach confirmed Maheesh Theekshana’s unavailability for the match against South Africa. Theekshana will be missing the game due to hamstring injury.
“Theekshana is still recovering from a hamstring injury, so he won’t be available for this game. But we expect him to be available very soon. The rest of them are fine,” said Sri Lanka head coach Chris Silverhood.
Theekshana’s absence is a big jolt for the team as he is one of the leading spinners for the team. During Asia Cup, Theekshana made a huge impact with his incredible bowling. Sri Lanka will take on South Africa on Saturday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This is going to be the first game for both teams. Sri Lanka are entering the World Cup on the back of a big defeat against India in the Asia Cup final.
