“Mohd. Shami is doing exactly what Kapil Dev…”: Former Indian cricketer’s huge praise for Shami

Team India marched to register their sixth victory of the ongoing World Cup tournament as they remain the unbeaten side in the tournament with their six consecutive victories. India are dominating the points table with their victories on the trot. On Sunday, India’s showdown with England turned out to be a big thriller with Indian bowlers crushing England’s batters with their massively successful bowling attack. It was a low-scoring game with India having been put into bat but failed to put up a great total. But, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma held his nerve to drive the side to the rather valuable total of (229) with his composed knock of (87).

Defending the total, India’s belligerent bowling attack led by Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah helped India bowl out England for (129), thus winning the game by (100) runs. Mohammed Shami returned with the crucial wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to cripple England’s batting. Mohammed Shami took four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was all praise for Shami while comparing him to legendary Kapil Dev.

“There is a lot of hard work there. When he goes back home, he has got several pitches made apparently, and he just bowls and bowls over there. That is what is so important. He is looking at his personal cricketing fitness. What is his speciality? It’s fast bowling. By bowling a number of overs in the nets where he stays. I don’t know whether he is a gym person. You can be doing gym all day. But at the end of the day, it has to coincide with what’s required in your speciality. Mohammed Shami is doing exactly what Kapil Dev used to do, just bowl and bowl in the nets,” Gavaskar said on India Today.
