“There’s a situation in front of you”: KL Rahul on batting in middle order

Indian batter KL Rahul exhibited a composed thinking to play a beautiful knock of (101) to lift India out of miserable situation in the ongoing first Test match against South Africa at Centurion. KL Rahul showed great calm to score his eighth Test hundred that also came as a big boost to his form in Test cricket. KL Rahul’s efforts with bat brought him a lot of laurels as he guided India to a modest total of (245) in their first innings. During India’s first innings, KL Rahul came out to bat in the middle, which turned out to be fruitful for India. Speaking about that during the press conference, KL Rahul felt that there’s a situation in front of you, when you bat in the middle order.
“Batting in the middle-order, what I’ve realised is that you can’t really plan your innings all that much. When you walk in, there’s a situation in front of you, the situation in the game tells you how you need to play and what you need to do at that time and in that moment,” said Rahul during the press conference.
“That’s what i tried to do. I try to walk in with a very free and empty mindset when I’m batting in the middle order, see what the game demands of me and try to do my best in that moment. Yesterday and today, the situation was quite clear that I’m batting with the tail and I need to take my chances and try to score as many runs as I can. It comes off so I am happy," he said.
South Africa on day three (Wednesday) will resume their innings with their overnight score of 256/5 with Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen unbeaten on (140) and (3) respectively. South Africa took the control of the game with Dean Elgar’s incredibly century-filled knock in his farewell Test series. India, meanwhile, would want to bowl out South Africa as early as possible to avoid huge lead.
