Siraj talks about his terrific spell against South Africa
Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj had rattled South African batters on day one of the ongoing second Test match on Wednesday at Cape Town by taking six wickets to help India bowl out South Africa for the meagre total of 55 in their first innings. South Africa’s top-order failed to comprehend the enigmatic bowling attack from Siraj that sent them in a precarious situation.
Siraj returned with six wickets from his nine overs after giving away 15 runs. In a discussion with India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey on BCCI tv, Siraj talked about the conditions and his spell that put South Africa in a disastrous situation.
“When I was bowling in the starting, I felt like, the release from my end was more effective. Whenever I was putting efforts, it was becoming manageable. So I just thought to release the ball. And we also saw the results that we got from the effective release,” Siraj said.
“Once our innings ended in the last match, we’d leaked too many runs. I realised, I’d tried a lot. So far in my Test cricket career, it was the first time that I’d got a maiden in the 24th over, so I had come to know about my mistake. I haven’t seen my videos, but I’d realised about my shortcomings and that’s when I knew what I had to do in the next game. And sooner I realised not to repeat the same mistake.”
Siraj shed the light on his love for Test cricket and how desperately he wants to keep playing this game and perform better.
“Test cricket is very important for me. I want to play as many games for India as I can in this format and perform like this. You need to show consistency throughout long spells. You face challenges, which is something I enjoy,” he said.
