Jasprit Bumrah rises to top spot in Test rankings, becomes 1st Indian pacer to do so

India’s fierce pacer Jasprit Bumrah has advanced to the top spot in the ICC Test Bowler’s rankings, becoming the first Indian fast bowler to hold this record. Jasprit Bumrah has ascended to the top spot on the back of his spellbinding performance in India’s recently concluded second Test match against England wherein India came out triumphant by 106 runs.
Bumrah has replaced teammate R Ashwin to climb to the first spot. This is for the first time that an Indian fast bowler has got to this position. Previously, the highest position acquired by an Indian fast bowlers was no.2 that was held by Kapil dev.
Across both innings, in the second Test, Jasprit Bumrah took nine wickets to seize the victory for India. He claimed the major wickets of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow to topple the formidable England batting lineup. Bumrah was named player of the game after India’s series-levelling win.
