Will O’Rourke registers history-creating figures on debut

New Zealand’s fast bowler Will O’Rourke made a big impression on his Test debut in New Zealand’s second Test match against South Africa by claiming the best figures by a New Zealand bowler on debut. 

Will O’Rourke took five wickets in South Africa’s second innings, taking his tally of wickets to nine to become the first New Zealand bowler to have nine wickets on Test debut. In the first innings, he took four wickets.

Will O’Rourke broke the long-held record which was dominated by Mark Craig who became the first New Zealand bowler to have most wickets on Test debut with 8/188 against West Indies in 2014. 

Talking about the match, New Zealand need 227 runs more to register their victory in the game. On day three at stumps, New Zealand were 40/1. Earlier, South Africa decided to bat on day one after winning the toss as they posted 242 in their first innings. In reply, New Zealand could manage 211. While, South Africa put out 235 in their second innings, allowing themselves to set a competitive target of 267 for New Zealand.
