PSL 2024 Eliminator: Islamabad United triumph over Quetta Gladiators

Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators by a margin of 39 runs in the Eliminator 1 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League on Friday at National Stadium Karachi. This victory has set the stage for an intense battle as Islamabad United are set to face Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator 2 on Sunday, vying for a spot in the grand finale of the tournament.
Deciding to bat, Islamabad United set a challenging target for Quetta Gladiators after opener Martin Guptil fired with his 56-run score, helping the side have a great start. Aside from Guptill, team's top-order batsmen laid a solid foundation, with contributions from Salman Ali Agha (31), Shadab Khan (23) and Alex Hales (23). Islamabad United posted (174) in (20) overs.
Chasing the total, Quetta Gladiators lost both of their openers Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel for (1) and (0) respectively. In the middle-order, Omair Yusuf hammered his half-century, however he didn’t get the support from other end with Rilee Rossouw and Khawaja Nafay scoring only five runs each. Akeal Hossain and Mohammad Amir fought back with their scores of (31) and (23) respectively, but couldn’t be enough for Gladiators to win the game. Islamabad United’s bowlers Imad Wasim and Naseem Shah shone with three and two wickets respectively, bowling out Gladiators for (135) in (18.4) overs.
As Islamabad United celebrate their triumph in the Eliminator 1, their focus now shifts to the upcoming showdown against Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator 2. With a spot in the PSL final at stake, both teams are poised for a huge battle, determined to outplay each other on the field.
