The 17th edition of Indian Premier League is approaching fast as it is scheduled to get underway from 22nd March with the opening game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings slated to be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
There’s huge excitement building up to the start of cash-rich league. But, there’s also a tinge of disappointment prevailing among die-hard fans who will not be seeing their favourite cricketers, who are going to miss the tournament due to their respective setbacks, in action.
Here are the players who won't be playing in the IPL 2024 or will miss few matches due to their respective issues:
(Mohammad Shami)
Leading bowler Mohammad Shami’s absence will give a significant blow to Gujarat Titans as he will remain away from the tournament this year. Leading wicket-taker at the ODI World Cup 2023, Mohammad Shami will miss the entire IPL 2024 due to an ankle injury. Shami recently underwent a surgery following which he was ruled out of the tournament.
(Devon Conway)

On the other hand, pacer Gus Atkinson, who is also from KKR, is out of the IPL to manage his workload ahead of the T20I World Cup 2024.
(Harry Brook)
England's explosive batsman Harry Brook has pulled out from IPL 2024 in order to be with his family, after his grandma passed away in February. His absence comes as a setback to Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup. However, they haven’t named any replacement.
(Mark Wood)
England speedster Mark Wood will be unavailable for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024 In order to manage his workload ahead of the T20I World Cup 2024. Mark Wood will not be participating in the IPL 2024 in its entirety. West Indies’ rookie fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been named Wood’s replacement.
(Prasidh Krishna)
Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Prasidh Krishan was ruled out of the IPL after he underwent surgery on his quadriceps tendon in February.
(Matthew Wade)
Australian wicketkeeper-batter will be missing the opening game of Gujarat Titans, and perhaps second too after prioritising to play in the Sheffield Shield Final.
(Lungi Ngidi)
