SA-W vs SL-W 3rd T20I: Historic triumph for Sri Lanka Women

Sri Lanka Women created history by securing their series victory over South Africa Women for the first time in any format, after they defeated the proteas by four wickets in the third and final T20I match on Wednesday at Buffalo Park, winning the three-match series 2-1.

Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama shone in team’s victory, crashing (73) and (54*) respectively, and powering the side to a 4-wicket win with five balls to spare. This was Sri Lanka’s highest successful run chase in T20I cricket. 

Earlier, South Africa Women, put to bat, made (155) in (20) overs for the loss of six wickets. Laura Wolvaardt and Nadine de Klerk scored (56) and (44) respectively, helping the side put up a valuable total. 

In their chase, Sri Lanka suffered early loss in the form of Vishmi Gunaratne being dismissed by Nonkululeko Mlaba. But, Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu remained firm, alongside Harshitha Samarawickrama to take back control of the game for a historic win.
