In what turned out to be a magnificent victory for Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI against South Africa, they completed the highest successful chase in women’s ODI, registering their six-wicket win over South Africa on Wednesday at Senwes Park. Sri Lankan Skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s breathtaking 195 unbeaten outclassed Laura Wolvaardt’s 184 unbeaten, helping the team level the series 1-1. Athapaththu’s 195 was the third-highest individual score in women’s ODI.

Asked to bat, South Africa Women put up 301 in 50 overs for the loss of five wickets. A sensational knock from skipper Laura Wolvaardt helped the side get to their fifth-highest ODI score. Laura Wolvaardt’s 184 was the highest ever total by a South African player. Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk brought up (36) and (35) respectively, helping SA muster a powerful total.

Chasing the total, Sri Lanka Women started brilliantly, however they went on to lose their three wickets in quick succession but skipper Chamari Athapaththu remained firm as she got a much-needed help from Nilakshi de Silva, who scored her half-century, ensuring team’s well-deserved victory.
