“Certainly closer to the end of my career”: Mitchell Starc hints at ODI retirement

Australian bowling superstar Mitchell Starc has indicated at his potential chances to bow out from ODI cricket to explore more opportunities in the franchise cricket. Two days back, Mitchell Starc played a starring role in KKR’s title victory at the Indian Premier League with his fierce spell. 

Mitchell Starc’s constant struggle to gain momentum at the IPL paid off at the right time, guiding KKR to their third title victory. Starc will next be seen at the upcoming T20I World Cup where he will be one of the leading bowlers for Australia, alongside Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. 

"The last nine years, I've prioritised Australian cricket. April and May have been our time off and a chance to give my body a break and spend some time away from cricket with my wife as well. That's certainly been where my head's been for the last nine years," Starc said during the press conference. 

"Moving forward, I am certainly closer to the end of my career than the start. One format may drop off. There is long time before the next one-day World Cup and whether that format continues for me or not – it may open doors for more franchise cricket."

Starc had faced a challenging return to the IPL, struggling to find his rhythm. But, during playoffs Starc seemed to be back into his elements, dismantling opposition team’s top-class batters. Starc was the most expensive signing in the history of IPL at the IPL 2024 auction. Meanwhile, In the end, Starc managed to live up to the expectations.
