“IPL form is absolutely irrelevant”: Khawaja backs Glenn Maxwell

Australia’s dangerous batter Glenn Maxwell had endured a wretched campaign at the Indian Premier League 2024, scoring just 52 runs in 10 games, including his highest score, which was just 28 runs. Following his poor run at the IPL, Maxwell had decided to go into a self-enforced break mid-tournament to recover from the perpetual lean patch. Still, Maxwell failed to demonstrate his batting blitz upon his return to action.
It was really unusual to see Glenn Maxwell, who had taken the ODI World Cup by storm, flop over and again. Maxwell’s poor show just came ahead of the T20I World Cup, giving Australia a fresh headache. But, Maxwell’s Aussie teammate Usman Khawaja termed Maxwell's poor form at the IPL as irrelevant.
“The IPL form is absolutely irrelevant. Maxy’s proven himself time and time again. Any player who’s performed over a long period of time understands that you can’t perform well every time you go out there," Usman Khawaja told the West Australian.
Maxwell is always in attacking mode regardless of the format and Khawaja believes Maxwell will not change his approach moving ahead.
"You take a few risks, particularly if you bat in the middle order, and T20 cricket’s not easy. But (for this tournament) if he gets one good innings, he’s away. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past. He’s not going to change his game and nor should he. Just keep going. He’ll find it," the veteran opener added.
