“10 years of lots and lots of failure”: Sanju Samson

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been in and out of the Indian team and hasn’t quite found his footing. But, things seem to have changed now for Samson after being incorporated into India’s squad for the T20I World Cup 2024. Over the past 10 years, Samson has gone through many ups and downs in his career, however Samson looks at things positively.
Recently, Samson had a fruitful season at the Indian Premier League, scoring 531 runs with five half-centuries and the best score of 86 unbeaten. Samson led Rajashtahn Royals to the playoffs but lost to SRH in the Qualifier 2. Ahead of India’s opening match at the T20I World Cup against Ireland, Sanju Samson talked about the challenges he has faced and his selection for T20I World Cup. T20I World Cup 2024 is being held in West Indies and USA.
“This is the most prepared or experienced Sanju Samson can come into a World Cup. 10 years of lots and lots of failure, few successes here and there. Life and cricket have taught me everything I needed to know before we came to this crucial tournament,” Samson said in a video posted by BCCI.
“IPL itself had covered a lot of mind space for me, there was a lot to do, a lot to think. Somewhere at the back of my head it was there - World Cup selection are also around. It was a huge thing, one of the best things that could ever happen to my career. Those thoughts kept on playing. I knew that I had a good season in IPL where I do have my chances to get in. But at the same time, I knew how tough it is and it can either be both sides."
"I love to look at things in a more positive manner. Even if it's a failure or setback, that’s when you you learn about it. When you are young and successful, you skip your lessons. I am blessed with my talent, which comes naturally to me as a batter.”
"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been completely off my mind. I keep telling myself that Sanju you are somewhere where lots of people dream of going. When you meet Rohit and Virat, you get inspired and there is no looking back. How can Sanju help India win more games. I am very grateful for the support wherever I go," the wicketkeeper stated.
