David Wiese, Namibian cricketer known for his explosive all-round skills, has confirmed that he is retiring from international cricket. Namibia’s final T20I World Cup group stage match against England ended in a loss. This decision marks the end of an illustrious career that spanned more than a decade. His career was rife with huge tenacity.

Making his debut for Namibia in 2021 at the T20I World Cup, he quickly established himself as a vital asset to Namibian team, guiding them to the Super 12 stage of the tournament in 2021. David Wiese is originally from South Africa as he made his T20I and ODI debut for South Africa before switching allegiance to Namibia. He made his T20I debut in 2013 and ODI in 2015 respectively. Wiese was greeted by England and Namibian players as he made his way off the field.

"I mean, [the next] T20 World Cup is still two years away, I'm 39 years old now, so , in terms of international cricket, I don't know if there's much left in me," Wiese said during the post match press conference.

"Obviously, I [would] still like to play the game for a couple more years, I feel like I've still got a lot to contribute and a lot to play. But I just feel like what better place to end a special career for me personally with Namibia. I've had a lot of good times with them and to play my last game for them possibly at a World Cup against a world-class team like England, it just seemed like the right time."

Wiese played nine ODIs for Namibia, scoring 228 runs, involving a half-century. He played 34 T20Is and plundered 528 runs, including three half-centuries. He also took 35 wickets in T20Is.
