England name squad for West Indies Tests, young talent Jamie Smith handed maiden call

Wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith and pacer Dillon Pennington have been handed maiden calls as England named their squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. Both players have been included for the first two games of the three-match series. 

The notable omissions from England’s squad are Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes. Even the likes of Ollie Robinson and Jack Leach have also been overlooked for West Indies Tests. Young Shoaib Bashir, who made his Test debut during England’s tour of India, has been included in the squad. Chris Woakes has too made his return to the squad, since last playing for England in 2023. 

The first Test match will begin on July 10 at Lord’s and the second Test match will be played from July 18 at Trent Bridge. The third and final Test will be played at Edgbaston from July 26. 

England Test squad: Ben Stokes (c), Joe Root, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Dillon Pennington, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes.
