Rahul Dravid opens up about the celebration at the T20I WC final

Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid was on top of the world after overseeing India’s title victory at the T20I World Cup 2024, ending an 11-year-long major title drought. The drought-breaking title victory had seen India crush South Africa by 7 runs in a nail-biting encounter in the final. India’s victory touched off huge celebrations in the camp, with head coach Rahul Dravid lifting the trophy gleefully.
India’s campaign at the T20I World Cup 2024 was the last assignment for Rahul Dravid as head coach. Speaking on his celebration, Rahul Dravid noted that it just came out after seeing India clinch the title after so many years.
"You don't plan these things. In most times, I try to keep my emotions in check as a coach and you are expected to do that. But at that time, I felt really happy for the team. I felt happy for the boys. I felt happy for the support staff. So many people who had worked really hard along with me," Dravid told Star Sports.
At the ODI World Cup last year, India were on the verge of pulling off a massive win in the final against Australia, but an impressive innings from Travis Head churning out a powerful ton, helped Australia down India. India had been undefeated throughout the tournament but failed to maintain that record in the final.
“We were just not able to cross the line in those critical moments. In those situations you need a little bit of luck, a little bit of destiny to work your way and that day it was with us," Dravid said.
