Shikhar Dhawan retires from international cricket

One of India’s most dynamic batters Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished and eventful career. Dhawan’s departure marks the conclusion of an era for Indian cricket. Dhawan, an explosive opening batsman, entertained fans with exceptional performances in his 14-year international career. Dhawan recently led Punjab Kings at the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL).

“It is said that to move forward in life you need to turn the pages and therefore, I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket," Dhawan said in a video posted on his social media accounts.

“As i bid adieu to my cricketing journey, I have peace in my heart that I played a lot for my country. I only tell myself that you don't feel sad that you won't play for India anymore, but feel happy that you played for the country."

Dhawan, who hasn’t featured for India since December 2022, ends his career with 24 International hundreds. He has played for India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is scoring (2315), (6793) and (1579) runs respectively. As far as his IPL career goes, Dhawan has played 222 matches scoring 6,769 runs. Dhawan made his debut against Australia in an ODI in 2010. Dhawan majorly established himself as one of the most aggressive and entertaining batsmen in the game.
