Former Indian player compares Gill to Dhoni, Kohli

Shubman Gill has been India’s one of the most impressive batters over the past few years, presenting himself as a pivotal figure in the team. Gill has been pretty remarkable across all formats, giving India a huge boost at the top of the order with his dashing batting. He will now be seen in India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, which is just a day away from its start in Chennai.
For many years, Gill has been applauded a lot by former cricketers and cricket pundits for his performances and recently former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra heaped high praise on him for his understanding of the game. Chopra feels that Gill understands the pulse of the game like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Earlier this year, Gill led Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 and made a powerful impact.
"The biggest quality of Shubman is that he understands the pulse of the game. Some players are very quick to understand. Some understand eventually. Some never understand. So, the greats you see, they understand very quickly. So, Virat Kohli understood the pulse of the game very quickly. Mahendra Singh Dhoni understood the pulse of batting in ODIs very quickly," said Aakash in a podcast with Raj Shamani.
"Shubman Gill understands the pulse of the game. He understands 100% where the game is going. Where can I go? Where can I take it? How can it run according to me? He is absolutely brilliant. He is top-class about himself," he added.
India’s first Test match against Bangladesh will start from Thursday in Chennai and Shubman Gill will surely be part of the XI. After the two-match Test series, India will host Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series.
