The second and final Test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is set to begin on September 26 at Galle International Stadium, Galle. Sri Lanka lead the series 1-0 after a thrilling first Test, and they are looking forward to clinching the series with a win in the second game. For New Zealand, the final game represents an opportunity to level the series and conclude on a high note.

Sri Lanka's victory in the first Test highlighted their dominance in home conditions, with a blend of aggressive batting and disciplined bowling, capitalising on every opportunity to secure a memorable win. Players like Kamindu Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal played pivotal roles, demonstrating their incredible batting skills. Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya were the key performers in Sri Lanka’s bowling attack.

With the series on the line, Sri Lanka will aim to build on this momentum. They will aim to maintain their focus and consistency as they have a strong chance to secure the series outright.

On the other hand, New Zealand face huge pressure to respond decisively. The Kiwis will be eager to erase the disappointment of the first Test. New Zealand would hope that they receive a more cohesive performance from their players this time around. Additionally, their bowlers, including skipper Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner will need to step up and exploit any weaknesses in the Sri Lankan batting order. New Zealand have a lot to cover as WTC final chances are at stake.

SL probable XI: Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva (c), Kamindu Mendis, Ramesh Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando
