West Indies name squads for Sri Lanka tour, Pooran, Hetmyer opt out of T20Is

As the West Indies prepare for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, significant changes in the T20I squad have garnered attention, with Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer and Akeal Hosein opting out of West Indies’ T20I squad. Meanwhile, Evin Lewis makes a notable return to the West Indies setup after last featuring for the national side during the T20I World Cup in 2022.
Brandon King has also made his return to the T20I side, having made recovery from the side injury. In the maiden call-ups, Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer have been added to the T20I squad. Rovman Powell will captain the side with Roston Chase serving as his deputy. Alzarri Joseph has also made his return to the side. West Indies will be playing three T20Is against Sri Lanka.
"The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury. We are confident in the squad's ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka,” West Indies coach Daren Sammy said.
The ODI squad will be led by Shai Hope with Alzarri Joseph being his deputy.
"As we continue to build our ODI team, this tour offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate strategies and give opportunities to emerging talent. We are excited to see young players like Jewel Andrew, who has earned his place as an exciting prospect for the future," said Sammy.
