England's Test skipper Ben Stokes was not considered for selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy and the white-ball tour of India that precedes the prestigious tournament due to a left hamstring injury. Ben Stokes sustained the injury during the third and final Test match against New Zealand recently, which England lost by 423 runs.

Following the injury it was confirmed that he would not be able to participate in the white-ball series in India or the Champions Trophy itself. Meanwhile, veteran batter Joe Root has been included into the squad. Root’s inclusion comes as a timely boost for the team, as he has been in excellent form in recent months and will cap off 2024 as the No.1 ranked Test batter in the world.

Root has not been the part of England's white-ball setup since the ODI World Cup 2023, but his excellent form has earned him a call. Buttler will lead the side amid the presence of terrific performers such as Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, and Ben Duckett. Against India, England will play five T20Is and three ODIs.

England ODI suqad: Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Mark Wood
