In the knockout match of the ongoing Big Bash League, Sydney Thunder will be taking on Melbourne Stars on Wednesday at Sydney Showground Stadium, Sydney. Sydney Thunder will be looking to build on their momentum at home after clinching a 61-run victory against Perth Scorchers. 

Thunder are placed on third place into the points table with five wins from 10 games. They have 12 points and a positive NRR of +0.340. 

Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, are placed on fourth place into the points table with five victories from 10 games. They have 10 points and a positive NRR of +0.135. 

Melbourne Stars have brought in Peter Handscomb into the side in place of Beau Webster, who will be with the Australian squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka. The winner of the Knockout clash will advance to the Challenger to face the loser of the Qualifier in order to make it to the final.
