SL vs AUS 1st Test, day 4: Australia complete a sensation win

Australia have secured a massive win against Sri Lanka, thrashing them by an innings and 242 runs in the first Test on Saturday in Galle. In a contest, which was largely one-sided, Australians piled up a mammoth 654/6d in their first innings before their bowlers ripped through Sri Lankan batting lineup, bundling them out for (165). Matthew Kuhnemann led Sri Lanka’s demolition with a five-wicket haul.
Forced to follow on, Sri Lanka’s top-order again failed to show any resistance and they were bowled out for (247) in their second innings, falling well short of making Australia bat again. This time Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon chipped in with four wickets each to lead Australia’s destructive spin attack.
Earlier, after winning the toss and deciding to bat, Australia’s batting lineup was in full flow, battering Sri Lanka’s bowling attack with ease. Their massive total of 654/6d was built on the back of outstanding performances from Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith, clouting (232) and (141) runs respectively. Debutant Josh Inglis also made a huge mark with his 102 off 94 deliveries.
