“That is the difference between Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill”: Sanjay Manjrekar highlights Gill’s potential

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has lavished praise on India's young batting sensation, Shubman Gill, after his brilliant performance in India’s Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on Thursday in Karachi. Manjrekar highlighted the immense potential of Gill, dubbing him "a player for the long run”. Manjrekar also shared his thoughts on the innings of Shreyas Iyer, who only managed to score 15 off 17 in India’s chase of 229.
India’s Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh, which India won by six wickets, turned into a memorable contest for the young opener. Shubman Gill displayed remarkable skill and temperament as he brought up a well-crafted century. His innings helped India set a strong foundation in their chase. Gill remained unbeaten on 101 as he guided the side to a dominant start in the tournament.
"He [Gill] is batting at the right position to make a huge impact. When he gets a hundred, like today, it seems like there is plenty left in the tank. It was like 60% of Shubman Gill is enough to get a hundred like this and he stays till the end,” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.
“That is the difference between Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill that Gill will take you right till the end. He is somebody who you think is going to be around for 10-15 years. Shreyas Iyer, despite his obvious talent, doesn't give you that impression.”
Gill’s fine knock was laced with nine boundaries and two sixes as he demonstrated his ability to play both attacking and defensive shots.
