“You feel sad, when you lose”: Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan after defeat against India

Pakistan are on the verge of elimination in the ongoing Champions Trophy after being destroyed by India on Sunday in Dubai. They, however, have a ray of hope to make it to the semi-final provided other results go in their favour. Having registered two consecutive defeats, situation has become very critical for Pakistan as they now have to rely on other results to go in their favour in order to progress into the semi-final. Speaking during the post-match press conference, Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan admitted the mistakes made by the team during their match against India.

“As far as match is concerned, obviously, you feel sad, when you lose. You have a difficult day, difficult things come up, questions come up. We made mistakes in all three departments, that is why we lost today,” Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan said.

Pakistan’s top-order crumbled under pressure, failing to give the team a perfect start after skipper Rizwan decided to bat. However, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan lifted the side to 241 with their knocks of (62) and (46) respectively.

"In our team meeting yesterday we discussed that we'll target 270-280 on this, given the outfield was slow, the pitch was slow. If we'd got 280 the result might have been different. Saud (Shakeel) and I started building up a partnership, during which we took some time, but after that our shot selection was poor. That gave them a chance to take wickets and put pressure on our middle order. They built on it, and we couldn't stabilise ourselves.

Pakistan only have one match to play in the tournament, which is against Bangladesh. And, they now have to depend on other results to advance ahead in the tournament.

"We can say for now that it is over That is the truth. We'll see what Bangladesh does with New Zealand then New Zealand with India and then what we do. It's a long road and it depends on other teams.
