WPL 2025, Final: Mumbai Indians claim second WPL title with narrow 8-run victory over Capitals

In a sensational showdown in the WPL 2025 final on Sunday at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious, defeating Delhi Capitals by 8 runs to claim their second WPL title. Meanwhile, Meg Lanning's dream of finally winning the Women's Premier League title in her third final as Delhi’s skipper has ended in huge disappointment.
Earlier, asked to bat, Mumbai Indians were helped by skipper Harmanpree Kaur, who played a crucial knock to lead the side’s batting attack. She anchored the innings with an aggressive knock. Her 66 runs were the backbone of MI’s total of 149/7 in 20 overs, a score that seemed modest but ultimately proved to be enough in the end. Harmanpreet and Sciver-Brunt led Mumbai’s recovery with an 89-run partnership. Mumbai’s other top-class batters Yastika Bhatia, Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews failed to shine in the final but Kaur saved the side with her terrific innings.
Chasing a target of 150 runs, Delhi Capitals were under pressure from the very beginning, having lost skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma for low scores. MI’s bowlers, led by the experienced Nat Sciver-Brunt, kept the DC batters in check throughout their innings. Sciver-Brunt delivered a match-winning performance with the ball, finishing with three key wickets that stunted the DC’s chase. She was well aided by Amelia Kerr, who claimed two wickets to restrict DC to 141/9 in 20 overs.
