Rob Walter resigns as South Africa's white-ball head coach

Rob Walter has stepped down from his role as South Africa's white-ball head coach, resigning just two years into a four-year contract. Earlier, Walter was due to coach South Africa in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October and November 2027.
"Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together. The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey. While it's time for me to step away, I have no doubt that the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights,” Walter said in a release.
Walter took up the role in March 2023 and coached South Africa to their first men's World Cup final at the T20I World Cup 2024. Under his leadership, South Africa also qualified for the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and last month's Champions Trophy. However, his bilateral record hasn’t been impressive. Under his leadership, South Africa won 19 of their 36 ODIs and 14 of their 31 T20Is.
