“Never about ego”: Virat Kohli talks about his batting approach

Virat Kohli has continued to enjoy the ongoing Indian Premier League with his rollicking innings one after another. Over the past few games, Virat Kohli, who has played a tremendous role in the team’s successful start to the tournament, has also been instrumental in setting the platform for the team with his disciplined batting. Recently, Virat Kohli also reached a massive landmark, becoming the first Indian player to notch up 13000 runs in T20s.
Meanwhile, Kohli has opened up about his batting mindset, explaining that playing according to the match situation and keeping the ego aside form the nucleus of his game. Kohli also cited an example when he let Shreyas Iyer take charge of the innings during the Champions Trophy match recently.
"If you look at how things panned out even recently, in one of the Champions Trophy games, Shreyas (Iyer) took charge. It was never about ego. At that time, if I was in rhythm, in the flow of the game, I naturally took the initiative. If someone else was better placed to take the lead, they would do it. It was never about trying to overshadow anyone or suddenly feeling like I don't have the ability. It's always been about understanding the game situation, and that's something I've always taken pride in. I want to play according to what the situation demands,” Kohli said on '18 Calling 18' on JioHotstar.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, having made a winning start to the tournament, are looking to clinch their maiden IPL title. They have won three of their last four matches. They are now gearing up to face Delhi Capitals on April 10.
