Dhoni takes over CSK captaincy, Ruturaj ruled out of IPL

News

In a massive development at the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni is set to lead the side following the injury-induced absence of regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. MS Dhoni, who has already led the side to five IPL titles, takes the reins at a crucial juncture as CSK are sitting at the bottom of the points table, having lost four and won one of their opening five matches.

Now, with Dhoni at the helm, Dhoni could take a different turn. Meanwhile, Gaikwad has been ruled out of the rest of the season with an elbow injury.

"So we're disappointed and feel for him. We appreciate the efforts that he's gone to in terms of trying to play, but unfortunately, he'd be out of the tournament from now. We have an uncapped player, MS Dhoni, who will take over as captain for the remainder of the IPL,” CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said on Thursday during the press conference.

CSK will take on KKR on Friday in their next match.
