Colombo Strikers, Jaffna Kings terminated by SLC

In a groundbreaking move, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the termination of Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings from the Lanka Premier League (LPL) ahead of the 2025 season. Both sides were slated to participate in the competition, which is scheduled to be held in July and August, but their ouster marks a major shift in the tournament. As per Sri Lanka Cricket, the reason behind their termination was their “failure to fulfil their contractual obligations.”
In the wake of the latest development, the upcoming edition of the LPL will have new ownership representing the Colombo and Jaffna franchises. The IPG Group, which holds the exclusive rights to the LPL franchises, has the authority to transfer or assign ownership of the terminated teams to new stakeholders.
