IPL adds 120 extra minutes for league games to tackle rain Interruptions

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced an extension of 120 minutes to the scheduled time of the remaining nine matches in the league stage. Now, all the remaining IPL games will have an extra 120 minutes to complete a full 20-over match. The decision has been taken to deal with the likelihood of rain interruptions during matches. Earlier, the timing used to be just only 60 minutes.
"Similar to the playoffs stage, an additional one hour will be allocated to the playing conditions for the remaining matches of the league stage, starting Tuesday, 20 May," the IPL body said in a statement.
Usually, the two-hour extra time allowance is applicable during the playoffs only, but with the onset of the monsoon, the board has decided to bring in change. In the ongoing season of IPL 2025, three matches have already been washed out, while two matches were shortened due to poor weather.
