Rob Walter appointed New Zealand men’s head coach

Rob Walter, the former South African white-ball coach, has been appointed as the head coach of New Zealand's men's national cricket team across all formats, signing a three-year contract. The appointment follows the departure of Gary Stead, who stepped down after seven years in the role.
Walter carries a wealth of experience, having served as South Africa’s white-ball head coach previously. During his run as SA’s white-ball coach, he led South Africa to their first-ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in 2024.
"The Blackcaps have been a successful and highly-regarded team on the world scene for some time now and it's a real privilege to be given the chance to add to that," Walter said upon his announcment.
"It's an amazing opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and support staff through a period of time in which so many global events, as well as massive bilateral series, will be contested.
"I just can't wait to get started. It's exciting, it's challenging, and the opportunity is enormous for everyone."
Walter’s first assignment will be New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe.
