“There is no particular style of captaincy”: Shubman Gill ahead of England Tests

India’s newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill, addressing the media ahead of India’s five-match Test series against England, appeared composed, confident, and purposeful, providing insights into his approach in his first assignment as India’s Test captain. The upcoming five-match Test series will mark Gill’s first assignment at the helm since taking over as India’s red-ball captain last month.
"There is no particular style of captaincy that I would say I want to follow. As you continue to play, you get more experience. I think your personal style is more visible to the people. I like to communicate with the players, making the players feel secure, talking to them, and giving them comfort. If you are a captain of any team or a leader of any team, if your players feel secure, only then can they give their 100%,” Gill said while addressing the press.
Shubman Gill succeeded Rohit Sharma as India’s Test captain after the latter retired from the longest format last month. Speaking on his appointment as India's Test captain, Gill said he was overwhelmed.
“Firstly, when I came to know that an opportunity had been presented to me to be able to captain the Test team, (it was) very overwhelming. I was overwhelmed with the whole experience but having said that, I think it’s a big responsibility, and looking forward to this great challenge that will be presented to us," Gill said.
