As England prepare to host India in the first Test of a much-anticipated five-match series beginning today, skipper Ben Stokes has laid down a clear vision for his team. Stokes, who has led England through a transformative phase in red-ball cricket, has once again reiterated his belief in an aggressive, and exciting brand of play.

"India always bring excitement wherever in the world they go. We still want to be known as a team who play an exciting style of cricket. [It's] not that we never wanted to win every game that we played, but it's changing what we say and how we say it. We want to be playing exciting games of cricket because we know that's what brings the best out of individuals and us as a team. But it's about winning,” Stokes said while addressing the press.

The series is going to be a huge challenge for Team India as they move into a transitional phase following the retirements of three of the most talented stars – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite the absence of the trio, Stokes said India will be a challenging opponent.

“There’s been a lot said about no Rohit, no Virat and no Ashwin. That doesn’t mean that we think it’s going to be any easier than what it ever is against India. The pool of talent that Indian cricket has is just ginormous. Although Virat, Rohit and Ashwin have done amazing things for their country on the field, that doesn’t mean that whoever comes in to replace those individuals are going to be any less hard to bowl at or bat against, just because of how big the pool of talent is in India,” he said.
