Pant reprimanded by ICC for showing dissent

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing first Test against England in Headingley. The destructive batter was also handed one demerit point. Pant was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match".
The incident took place in the 61st over of England's innings, when Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were batting. Pant was seen having a discussion with the umpires regarding the condition of the ball.
"When the umpires refused to change the ball after checking it with the ball gauge, the wicket-keeper showed his dissent by throwing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires," the ICC release stated.
There was no need for a formal hearing, as Pant had admitted to the offence and accepted the sanctions proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.
Talking about Pant’s performance in the first Test, he has been in destructive form, having blasted centuries across both innings. In the first innings he scored 134 runs, while in the second innings he fired a 118-run knock.
