“This team will play better”: Rishabh Pant ahead of India's third Test vs England
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has expressed confidence in his side's momentum heading into the third Test against England at Lord’s, following a dominant 336-run victory in the second Test. With the five-match Test series now level at 1-1, Pant believes India are well-poised to continue their charge, provided they stick to their plans and maintain composure. India fought back hard in the second Test, clinching a 336-run win to level the five-match series 1-1. Meanwhile, the third test will begin on Thursday.
“Definitely it's a short turnaround, but like you said, when you have momentum on your side, you want that short turnaround,” Pant said during the press conference ahead of the third Test.
“We are not thinking about it too much. It's good for us to have the momentum, but eventually you’ve got to play good cricket. This team will play better and will win eventually.”
Heading into the third Test, England have included pacer Jofra Archer in the playing XI. He has made his long-awaited return to the England Test side after four years. Due to a string of elbow and back injuries, Archer has not played for England in the longest format since February 2021. Indian vice-captain Pant welcomed Archer’s return, saying it’s going to be a good contest.
“Personally, whenever I step on the field, I always enjoy my cricket and give my 200%. It's not particularly about any individual. Yes, it's going to be a good contest because he’s coming back after a long break. I’m happy he’s back,” Pant said.
