India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains in doubt ahead of the fourth Test against England in Manchester starting July 23. However, the management has the all-important decision to make with regard to selection as India trail the five-match series 1–2 and face a must-win scenario. India’s ambition to bounce back in the series hinges on experience and pace. Now with two Tests to play, they are leaning toward playing Jasprit Bumrah given the importance of the fourth match. Notably, ahead of the series, India had confirmed that Bumrah will miss two out of the five Tests as part of a planned workload management.

"No, we'll make that call in Manchester still. We know we have got him for one of the last two Tests. It's pretty obvious that the series on the line now in Manchester so there will be a leaning towards playing him,” India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said while speaking to reporters.

"But again, we have got to look at all the factors – how many days of cricket are we going to get up there, what do we feel is our best chance of winning that game, and then how that fits in together with The Oval. And looking at the last two games holistically as part of the series."

India are also sweating on Rishabh Pant’s fitness after he suffered an injury to his index finger during the third Test at Lord’s. However, India are hopeful that Pant will play in the Manchester Test.

"He will bat in Manchester before the Test. Look, I don't think you're going to keep Rishabh out of the Test no matter what. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the third Test, and it's only going to get easier and easier on his finger. And keeping's obviously the last part of the process to make sure that he can keep. We don't want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through innings," he said.
