Braving the injury, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant delivered a magnificent performance at Old Trafford on day two (Thursday) of the fourth Test against England. After retiring hurt on 37* on Wednesday, sustaining a toe injury, he stunned all by returning to the crease on Thursday. He settled in and scored 54 valuable runs, guiding India’s first innings to a competitive total of 358.

On Wednesday, Pant was hit on the foot trying to reverse sweep Chris Woakes. Following the injury, Pant, who was left in excruciating pain, had to be taken off the field in a medical buggy. He was straight taken for scans, but there has been no official update on the extent of the injury. However, reports have claimed that Pant has suffered a toe fracture. In the wake of Pant’s gutsy half-century, Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar showered praise on the talented batter.

"Resilience is about playing through pain and rising above it. Rishabh Pant showed tremendous character by walking back into the game with an injury and delivering a performance like that. His fifty is a powerful reminder of the grit and determination it takes to represent your country. A brave effort, and one that will be remembered for a long time. Well played, Rishabh," Sachin Tendulkar posted on X.

This is a significant match for India to win to level the series 2-2. India are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, with England having won the first and third matches. India clinched victory in the second game.
