Afghanistan have named former Ireland all-rounder John Mooney as their new fielding coach. Mooney has already worked with Afghanistan in the past, serving as their fielding coach from 2018 to 2019. John Mooney has been roped in following the departure of Shane McDermott, who is currently Pakistan's fielding coach.

Mooney has featured for Ireland in 91 international matches (64 ODIs and 27 T20Is), including three ICC Cricket World Cups in 2007, 2011, and 2015, as well as two ICC Men's T20 World Cups (2009 and 2010). Mooney holds Level 3, 2, and 1 coaching certificates from the England Cricket Board. He also worked with the West Indies men's team in 2019 and has been working with the Ireland women's team since January this year. Afghanistan have also named Nirmalan Thanabalasingam as the new physiotherapist.

Thanabalasingam is highly experienced, having been the physiotherapist for Desert Vipers in the ILT20 since 2020. Thanabalasingam also worked as the High Performance Training & Rehabilitation Manager for Sri Lanka Cricket from March 2017 to June 2018. Both have already joined the Afghanistan squad for their ongoing training camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of the upcoming T20I tri-series, featuring UAE and Pakistan, and the subsequent T20I Asia Cup 2025.
