Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh eye crucial win against Afghanistan in must-win game

To keep themselves alive in the tournament, Bangladesh are preparing for a high-stakes showdown against Afghanistan set to be played on Tuesday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. For the Tigers, it’s a must-win encounter that could prove crucial in their journey for the Super Fours.

Bangladesh had a rocky start to the tournament, suffering a loss against Sri Lanka in their opening game of the event. The defeat for sure also took a significant toll on their Net Run Rate (NRR), making the upcoming game incredibly vital. A win is essential against Afghanistan, not just for the points but also to repair the damage done to their NRR. Bangladesh would need to overcome the top order’s inconsistency in order to disappoint Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, on the other side, come into this game with success on their side. Their first game against Hong Kong in the tournament ended in a win, stamping their authority early in the tournament. Afghanistan once again will bank on their spin-heavy bowling attack and a solid batting lineup. Led by the ever-reliable Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s bowling unit has been effective in choking runs and dismantling opposition. Players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sediqullah Atal, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mohammad Nabi will be expected to shine for the side.
