Amid Injury concerns Australia make key changes ahead of New Zealand T20Is

In a disappointing blow to the Australian side, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the T20I tour of New Zealand with a calf strain. Inglis, who was expected to be a prominent player in the squad, will miss the series. His absence is a considerable setback, as he has been one of the more consistent players for Australia in the shortest format. He sustained a calf strain while training in Perth earlier this week. In fact, it is the second calf injury Inglis has suffered in the past nine months.

With Inglis sidelined, Alex Carey, the seasoned Australian wicketkeeper, has been called up to replace him in the squad. Notably, the Australian team, which was initially brimming with star power, has seen several alterations as they adjust to unforeseen circumstances ahead of the much-anticipated series against New Zealand. Carey last appeared for Australia in T20Is in August 2021. Meanwhile, the three-match series will begin on October 1 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

Australia T20I squad vs New Zealand: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
