Zaheer Khan parts ways with Lucknow Super Giants after one season: Reports

Zaheer Khan has parted ways with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), bringing an abrupt end to a tenure that lasted just a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season. According to reports, Zaheer’s vision for the team did not match with that of head coach Langer and owner Saneev Goenka, sparking the exit. The development comes less than a year after Khan joined the franchise as a mentor in August 2024, stepping into the role left vacant by Gautam Gambhir.

Zaheer, having previously worked with Mumbai Indians between 2018 and 2022, had inked a two-year contract with the franchise, and his signing was seen as a move to enhance LSG's performance.

However, the 2025 season failed to live up to those expectations.

LSG endured a disappointing campaign, finishing seventh on the table with just six wins from 14 matches. Apart from this, LSG also made headlines by signing Rishabh Pant for a record-shattering ₹27 crore. The purchase made Pant the most expensive player in IPL history. While his inclusion added star power to the side, the overall team performance did not match the hype surrounding the blockbuster buy.
