South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock reverses his ODI retirement

South Africa's left‑handed wicketkeeper‑batter Quinton de Kock has reversed his retirement from ODIs. After stepping away from the 50‑over format following the 2023 World Cup, de Kock is now back in South Africa’s squads for both ODIs and T20Is for their upcoming tour of Pakistan. He has been included in both ODI and T20I squads for the Pakistan assignment. He has also been named in the squad for a one-off T20I in Namibia, which will precede the series against Pakistan.
De Kock first announced his decision to retire from ODIs in September 2023. He did not call time on his T20I career at that time; he continued to play, including in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was among South Africa’s leading run‑scorers. Notably, since the T20I World Cup, De Kock hasn't played for South Africa in any format.
"Quinton's return to the white-ball space is a major boost for us. When we spoke last month about his future, it was clear that he still has a strong ambition to represent his country. Everyone knows the quality he brings to the side, and having him back can only benefit the team," South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said.
De Kock has played 155 ODIs, scoring 6,770 runs at an average of 45.74 and a strike rate of 96.64. Meanwhile, South Africa will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20s against Pakistan, beginning on 12 October.
