India’s rising batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name into the record books on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies on Friday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The dangerous opener blasted an imperious knock that saw him raise his bat for his seventh Test hundred.

Jaiswal's seventh century marked a historic moment in his career;. With this feat, he has now become the second youngest Indian batter to register seven Test centuries, overtaking legends such as Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the mark at a later stage in their careers. Only Sachin Tendulkar reached this tally at a younger age. Facing a disciplined West Indies attack, Jaiswal reached his century in just 145 balls, churning out a flurry of boundaries.

Jaiswal is also just the second batsman after South African legend Graeme Smith to have scored seven Test hundreds as an opener before turning 24. Since making his debut in 2023, Jaiswal has shown exceptional temperament, performing beyond expectations. What sets Jaiswal apart is not just his ability to score runs, but the hunger and consistency with which he does it. In just under two years of Test cricket, he has transformed from a promising youngster to a mainstay in India’s top order.
