"This could be Rohit and Virat's last trip Down Under": Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson

India's upcoming ODI series against Australia marks a significant occasion as Indian veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the national side for the first time since their last appearance at the Champions Trophy. Their return is eagerly anticipated, not just for what they bring to the table but also because of the value the duo add to the Indian contingent. Over the years, the legendary cricketers have been the pillar of the Indian team, having played countless match-winning innings. Meanwhile, ahead of the series, former Australian cricketer Shane Watson believes that it could be the final tour Down Under for batting legends.
“This indeed could be Rohit and Virat's last trip Down Under, and I really believe the Australian cricket-loving public are going to show how much they absolutely adore them. There's no doubt Virat's been one of Australia's biggest foes over the years. He's always performed against the Aussies and knows how to give it back as well," Watson said on JioStar.
Watson also expects the Australian public to show deep appreciation for batters.
“But the Australian public genuinely appreciates how incredibly good he is. I'd be so surprised if the fans don't show their love, support, and appreciation for how great both Virat and Rohit have been. Rohit is a leader and a performer. The Australian public has always respected the very best, and these two certainly are that."
Shubman Gill will lead India after being named India's ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. Notably, both Rohit and Kohli have retired from Test cricket and T20 Internationals and are only available for India in the ODI format. The series will also be a big challenge for both players because if they perform well, it could reinforce their place in India’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2027.
