Batting maestro Virat Kohli lauds Indian women for their valiant efforts against Australia

Indian women stunned the mighty Australian women in the semi-final of the Women's ODI World Cup on Thursday in Mumbai, clinching a crushing five-wicket win to advance to the final of the mega event. The architect of the victory was Jemimah Rodrigues, who slammed an unbeaten 127-run knock to carry India over the line with 9 balls to spare. Australia, the defending champions and perennial favourites, came into the match full of confidence, but it was shattered after the Indian team put up a competitive fight.
After winning the toss, Australia batted first and piled up a formidable total of 338 following a brilliant century by Phoebe Litchfield (119) and solid contributions from Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner, contributing with 77 and 63, respectively.
Chasing the target, the task wasn't easy for India as they lost early wickets, but Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a gritty 89, forged a mammoth 167-run partnership with Rodrigues that helped India put themselves back in the game. In light of India's fascinating victory, Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli took to social media to praise Indian women's valiant efforts.
"What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India!" he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Rodrigues, who was named player of the match, broke down during the post-match presentation, revealing she was going through anxiety.
“Firstly, I want to thank Jesus. I couldn't have carried it alone. Last six months have been tough. I was dropped from this World Cup last year, and I have cried every day. I was going through anxiety. I just had to show up every day, and God carried me through," she said.
