WPL 2026: Deepti Sharma, Alyssa Healy released, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues among players retained: Reprot
Ahead of the mega auction for the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, the franchises have locked in several of India’s stalwarts from the recent ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 campaign. Meanwhile, some global superstars now face re-entry into the auction market. Major Indian players Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma have been retained by their franchise franchises, according to ESPNcricinfo.
In a big surprise, Deepti Sharma, who was the Player of the Tournament in the World Cup, has been released. She also captained UP Warriorz in Healy’s absence during the 2025 season.
Several prominent names have also been released into the auction pool. Among them are Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning and New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr. The report further stated that The defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) and runners-up, Delhi Capitals (DC) have retained five players—the maximum allowed. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have retained four players. Gujarat Giants (GG) have retained two players. UP Warriorz (UPW) have retained one player.

As per WPL retention rules, each team can retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players. If a franchise chooses to retain the full five players, at least one must be an uncapped Indian.
