Mitchell Johnson lashes out at David Warner

Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has lashed out at opener David Warner for his dull form in the longest format of the game after Warner was incorporated into Australia’s squad for the first Test match against Pakistan. Warner’s selection for the Test series against Pakistan didn’t settle well with Johnson as he launched an scathing attack on Warner. Johnson also attacked Warner for his involvement in the ‘sandpapergate’ scandal. David Warner has scored 8,487 runs in Tests but Warner’s form has seen a decline in recent times as he has only been able to get one century since 2021.

“As we prepare for David Warner’s farewell series, can somebody please tell me Why? Why a struggling Test opener gets to nominate his own retirement date? And why a player at the centre of one of the biggest scandals in Australian cricket history warrants a hero’s send-off?,” Johnson wrote in his column for The West Australian.

following the ball-tempering scandal during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2018, Warner had been handed 12 months ban while Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith were given nine months and one- year ban respectively for their involvement. Warner will be seen in action for Australia in the Test format for the last time as he is set to retire after this series.

“Warner certainly isn’t Australia’s Test captain and never deserved to be for that matter. In fact, he ends his career under a lifetime leadership ban,” wrote Johnson.
