Amid Jaiswal’s poor form, former Indian player delivers his verdict

It’s not typical of India’s young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has repeatedly been failing to dish out runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League, to not roar in the shortest form of the game. Jaiswal’s form has been far from satisfying, having scored (39) runs in four matches. However, Rajasthan Royals’ performance in the tournament has been largely impressive, with no setback yet in the last four games. RR have been insurmountable in their past outings, beating big teams.

Jaiswal’s form remains the overriding concern not only for Rajasthan Royals but team India as well, considering the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024 that is scheduled to be played just days after the conclusion of IPL. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is of the view that Jaiswal should take his time in order to settle and build momentum in his innings.

Jaiswal had entered Indian Premier League on the back of a powerful performance as he played striking innings in India’s five-match Test series against England, capping it off as the leading run-scorer.

“He had a purple patch going for him for a long time. And sometimes, when you come in without much expectation, you can express yourself. Now, he's a big name, and I feel, looking at how he's batting, he's trying to impose himself too early,” Jaffer told Cricbuzz.

“He needs to give himself a little bit of time, try and play conventional cricket at the start. Get himself set because the other guy on the end is Jos Buttler. You can afford to take time. It looks like, from the 3-4 games that he has played, he is taking too many risky options. When your time is not right, sometimes you can't hold on to it,” Jaffer added.
